It does seem to lack map building software though. If you are waiting for Starcraft II and are looking for something similar, this game is for you. First, I received this game in December, 2009 from Amazon and it did not have a defective installation key. Hopefully that issue has been resolved, although other reviewers have posted the easy fix.I am new to Warhammer 40K and found it to be very like the classic game Starcraft. The skirmish mode is very fun and repayable, single or multiplayer.
Very entertaining. No need to insert the cd to play. Amazing gameplay, ok graphics. Worth every penny.
The same buildings which pop up out of nowhere when you build them. Most disappointing is that this is merely another Command and Conquer game. The same building/energy point system so you can't really concentrate on strategy and tactics as you have to keep going back and managing your base. And don't get me wrong, for Command and Conquer it's not bad. I play the entire thing. The same ridiculous maps which are merely mazes, and the same computer tactics (computer attacks you from both sides of the map at the same time making it nearly impossible to scroll back and forth and control both sides of the battle). The same squads which never advance with you throughout the campaign.
And the same dictated game sequence which basically walks you through their movie sequences. But the original Warhammer 40,000 was so imaginative and expansive, it's a shame this is not. Enjoyable, but not great. The same units which never gain experience. If you liked Command and Conquer and want more, here it is.
It is so much fun and developed that you will relish every hour playing this classic game, loads of detail and for a 40k hobbyist, it is a must have. Plus you get to edit the color of your troops, great for generating paint schemes for your miniatures.
I should not have to scramble for disks. Still loads of fun, especially dark crusade.on a completely different note: to all game makers:When I buy a game, it's fine. I should not have to jump through any hoops to enjoy my product--god forbid someone should lose the disk or it should be scratched somehow. Convenient package. Should have been cheaper. I inherently dislike, nay, loathe any business modal that assumes it's customers are crooks and need to be treated as such.
